Certification Update -- Unified English Braille (UEB)
If you are already a BLC/CNIB-certified braille transcriber this course enables you to update your certification.
CNIB is currently offering this UEB update free of charge.

Participants are required to have access to The Rules of Unified English Braille (the Rulebook) which is available as a print pdf file or as a braille file from the ICEB website.
By the end of the course, participants will understand the basic principles of UEB, be familiar with the most commonly used symbols, and know the Rulebook well enough to find and use the symbols needed to transcribe literary material. This course also introduces some basic technical concepts.

Unified English Braille (UEB) Transcription Certification
Successful completion of this intensive correspondence course qualifies individuals to transcribe English print materials into braille. No previous knowledge of braille is required.
- Each lesson includes transcription and reading exercises to be submitted for marking
- 10-15 hours required to complete a lesson;
- Work with an instructor;
- Instruction manual (From Print To Braille With UEB) provided.

- A computer and braille six-key input software which is available for download; or a brailler with 40 cells per line and 25 lines per page.

Transitioning to Unified English Braille
Hadley School for the Blind
The Hadley School for the Blind is pleased to offer a new
“Transitioning to Unified English Braille” course for professionals beginning
in January 2015. The course will be available in print and braille (online
version is in development). Thanks to the American Printing House for the Blind
(APH), this professional course will be tuition-free through the end of
calendar year 2015.
The six-lesson course provides a structured approach to learning the difference between EBAE (English Braille American Edition) and Unified English Braille (UEB). Abundant examples and exercises will help students progress easily and transition to the new code. Prerequisites include strong contracted reading and writing skills in EBAE or SEB (Standard English Braille).
“Transitioning to Unified English Braille” also will be offered to students in Hadley’s Adult Continuing Education/High School Program and Family Education Program, free of charge on an ongoing basis.

Braille Transcription (UEB) Online Certificate of Recognition
Chinook Learning Services
This course is suitable for individuals who are new to braille or who have previously taken a Literary Braille course and would like extra review and practice while learning UEB. Access the course from your home computer. Classes are delivered online through the CBE's D2L program and Blackboard (Elluminate). You will receive the Braille Transcription (UEB) Online Certificate of Recognition upon completion of this program.
This 46-hour certificate is recognized by the Calgary Board of Education to meet the qualifications for the position of Braille Assistant.
