Leo Bissonnette - Director

Dr. Leo Bissonnette is a lifelong braille user and holds a Masters in Sociology and a doctorate in Educational Technology from Concordia University.

Now retired, Dr. Bissonnette worked as the Manager of the Access Centre for Students with Disabilities at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec. Prior to this, he worked as a rehabilitation specialist at the Montreal Association for the Blind (now the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre), providing instruction in assistive technology, including those that increase access to braille.

Dr. Bissonnette has been active for over fifty years, serving on the boards of several organizations in Quebec and across the country. Presently Dr. Bissonnette is the 1st Vice President of the Canadian Council of the Blind.

Dr. Bissonnette presently is active on the Board of the Low Vision Self-Help Association in Beaconsfield, Quebec serving as Vice President and Chair of the Program Planning Committee.

As a member of BLC who is passionate about braille and accessibility, Dr. Bissonnette has previously served on the BLC board of Directors and has remained active on a number of committees, including the Braille Zoomers program for adult braille learners and the Braille Promotion committees.

Dr. Bissonnette has returned to the BLC Board as the representative of the Canadian Council of the Blind.
